Sowing Seeds and Welcoming Spring

Waking Up My English Cottage Garden From Its Winter Slumber

Anni Hamer

Spring has a way of quietly inviting us to start fresh, to nurture growth, and to celebrate the small, intentional acts that bring life to our days. I’ve been spending my mornings and weekends in my English cottage garden, planting seedlings and bulbs, feeling the cool, earthy soil between my fingers, and listening to the gentle hum of awakening life. There’s something deeply grounding about this simple act of care; it reminds me that growth, whether in nature or in ourselves, takes patience and attention. Every sunny window in my house is covered in trays of soil with seedlings of all shapes and sizes just waking up to the world.

The garden is slowly coming alive after the winter months. Tiny shoots of peonies, gerums, peek through the soil, promise the riot of colour to come. I always get a little giddy when I start to see my roses producing fresh new shoots and seeing the first signs of the perennials slowly making their way out of the ground. I love to see what has survived the winter. Crocuses and snowdrops are still lingering, delicate and resilient, while the freshly open daffodils and tulips begin to sway in the soft breeze. Each plant, from the humble herbs tucked along in pots and nooks and crannies of the borders to the roses I’ve spent years nurturing, carries the magic of new beginnings.

Spring in a cottage garden is never rushed. It’s a season of gentle rhythms, of noticing the small changes; a bud unfurling, a bird singing, the scent of damp earth after rain. Tending to it has become a form of meditation for me, a way to reconnect with the cycles of life and the quiet joy of creation.

This season of renewal is also a perfect moment to revisit our self-care rituals. Just as we plant seeds and patiently nurture them, we can care for ourselves with intention. Whether it’s journaling your thoughts, taking a mindful walk, or enjoying a nourishing skincare routine, small daily practices help us feel balanced, radiant, and connected. At Luna Selene, our Lunar Radiance Citrus Toning Elixir, Alpha Glow botanical cleansing balm and Lacus Temporis pro-collogen serum are designed to nourish not only the skin but also the spirit, helping you step into spring with energy and calm.

As I plant each seed and watch each shoot appear, I am reminded that growth is a process and that patience and care bring the most beautiful results. There is a quiet magic in observing life unfold, whether in your garden or in your own life. The blooms may take time, but when they arrive, they reward your attention with colour, fragrance, and vitality.

This spring, I invite you to slow down, notice the small miracles around you, and sow a little magic in your own life, whether through gardening, mindful rituals, or nurturing your wellbeing. In the heart of your daily moments, beauty and growth are always quietly taking root.
